White / Pied Wagtail (Lavandera Blanca / Montacilla alba + subsp yarrellii).
The White Wagtail is a resident species which is boosted by massive numbers of birds from further North during the winter. Pied Wagtail which is the Northern / British subsp is a very rare winter visitor with just a single record along the Rio Vilano.

Uncommon winter visitor found along wooded water courses. There is a small breeding population in the Sierra Nevada out side the area.

During the winter we are lucky enough to have a couple of flocks of these high altitude birds on Sierra de Loja with a total numer of around 50 birds. They are more often heard than seen but sometime allow close approach.
